Any standard PS5 available in stores or online has the standard white faceplates. Still, with official faceplates from Sony and third-party vendors, PlayStation owners can easily change the look of their console. While many color options are available from third-party vendors, Sony has officially released PS5 faceplates in Cosmic Red, Galactic Purple, Starlight Blue, Nova Pink, and Midnight Black, some of which are colors available for the PS5 controller.
Things to Consider Before Replacing the PS5 Faceplate
Before dismantling Sony’s popular console, the PS5, to change the faceplates, ensure the console is turned off and is disconnected from the power source. If the console was being used, give it enough time to cool down. Also, remove any accessories or USB cables. Using a soft, dry cloth, clean the surface of the PS5, and keep the PS5 faceplates handy to change them immediately to avoid damaging the console while it is exposed.
How to Replace PS5 Faceplates
Start with removing the top cover. Place the PS5 console flat, with the PS5 engraving pointing towards the bottom left. Place the thumb underneath the plastic below the logo and slide the panel to the right. Now, remove the bottom cover. Flip the PlayStation 5 over, place the thumb under the upper left corner of the plastic, and apply pressure while sliding the panel to the right. There will be a small “pop,” and the bottom cover will come right off. Before installing the new PS5 faceplate on either side of the console, thoroughly clean it and remove any dust or animal hair. To install the bottom cover, place the panel on the right side of the console. Slide the panel into place from right to left. A clicking sound will indicate the panel is securely in place. Flip the console around to install the top cover, with the PS5 logo pointing to the bottom right like before. Slide the new PS5 faceplate cover gently from right to left while pressing the logo, and the last click will indicate the panel is installed.
Can Installing PS5 Faceplates Void the Warranty?
Sony has stated that installing new PS5 faceplates, or replacing damaged ones, will not void the warranty. The only condition is that the serial number and the seal must remain intact, especially if a PS5 gets a PS2-themed makeover. Initially, there was a lot of concern regarding Sony’s stance regarding installing PS5 faceplates, but with Sony releasing official faceplates for the PS5, those concerns are no longer valid. It is worth noting, though, if a console is sent for repairs to Sony, there is no guarantee that the console will be returned with the customized faceplates, which could be a cause for concern.
The PS5 is available now.
